FAQs

Who is a part of the Lighthouse Founders Network?

The Lighthouse Founders Network comprises a dynamic community of over 130 startup founders who have participated in Lighthouse’s accelerator programs since its inception in 2012. These founders represent a diverse array of industries and stages of growth, unified by their commitment to building sustainable, high growth ventures.

How do I get into the Lighthouse Founders Network?
Currently, entry to the Lighthouse Founders Network is through participation in one of our annual cohorts. Applications for 2026 Founders will open in September 2025.

Do I have to be based in Virginia to apply for the cohort?
No, but your company must have a headquarters in the US, and you must attend the in-person portions in Richmond, Virginia during the first and last weeks of the accelerator program.

How do I know if my company is a good fit for the accelerator program?
We seek early-stage, MVP companies with validated business models and the potential to scale.
Ideal companies:

  • Are innovation-based and technology-led.

  • Show positive traction.

  • Have a validated business model and proven market need.

  • Can be from any industry

  • Are US-based, with a preference for Virginia-based companies.

Ideal founders:

  • Are full-time solo founders or co-founders.

  • Commit to active and consistent participation.

  • Show strong ethics, tenacity, and coachability.

What if I’ve already participated in other accelerators or incubators?

That’s great—Lighthouse Network is designed to meet founders where they are, especially those who’ve already been through early-stage programs. Unlike traditional accelerators that are time-bound and curriculum-driven, Lighthouse offers long-term, founder-first support that extends well beyond a single cohort.

We focus on what comes after the accelerator: refining the business model, building real investor relationships, navigating early growth challenges, and avoiding burnout. Our community of mentors, investors, and peer founders is here not just for a season, but for the long haul. If you’ve “graduated” from other programs, think of Lighthouse as the network that helps you level up, expand your runway, and stay in the game.

When is the Lighthouse Founder Network Accelerator program?
We have one cohort a year. The upcoming 2026 cohort will launch in February 2026. Applications will open September 2025.

What kind of programming is offered?
Each week focuses on critical areas for startups, such as fundraising, marketing, and scaling. Experts provide engaging sessions, and we include one-on-one time with mentors and fun events.

What about travel and housing costs?
Lighthouse Labs covers your travel and housing costs for the in-person weeks of the program.

What is the time commitment of the cohort?
Plan for an average of 6 hours per week during virtual weeks and about 25-30 hours during the in-person weeks. Most programming occurs on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
